Poringland (Away), 16 September 2007
Poringland -v- Wymondham
Result: 3-4 Loss
1-3 Halftime
Goalscorers: Brindle, Brindle, Elvin.
Wymondham Player of the Match: Alex Maran
The game started with such promise, Dan Brindle - who’d travelled for a couple of hours back from his Dad’s just for the game - netting an early goal after plenty of positive play. After around 10 minutes, however, the side seemed to switch off and start cruising which Poringland took full advantage of to net three goals whilst we slept.
After a stern half-time talk seemed to do the trick, the lads pressed on playing hard but fair football and Dan Brindle scored a nice goal with Matt Elvin following up shortly afterwards with a goal from a scrappy scrum in the Poringland goalmouth following a corner.
Some good effort from all the team during that second half meant that Wymondham were in command and looking like ending up winners as the score had been levelled. However another mistake found us being punished with Poringland scoring against the run of play and depriving us of any points.
In defence, Alex Maran had played very well with some nice clearances and some good tackles and it was that plus his never say die attitude that won him the player of the match medal today.
Thanks again to Michael Elvin for running the line for us and for the great turnout of parents to support us.
