Wymondham -v- Hellesdon

Result: 0-4 Loss
0-2 Halftime

Goalscorers: None.

Wymondham Player of the Match: Craig Woolrich

So when we told the lads before their game that they should wake themselves up and play to win from the moment I blew the whistle, we meant it.

Why then would they completely ignore what we had said and go to sleep after 10 minutes’ play … yet again!

Yes, we decided to hand the game to Hellesdon on a plate because we couldn’t be bothered to play. Moments of excellence when we had a number of shots towards target followed by periods of complete mediocrity when the boys sat back and stopped trying.

A failure to win any balls from place kicks because we let Hellesdon do it instead or we let the ball bounce over our heads. It was embarrassing. Most embarrassing was watching a cross/shot from Nick Parker end up the other side of the goalmouth where the ball lay unattended whilst our players - who had simply assumed the ball would be going out of play - turned to walk back towards our half. I stood shaking my head…

There was a failure up front to make any decent tackles due to a lack of commitment to them. There was a large hole in the midfield where one or more players should have been. And there was a failure at the back to clear their lines and catch Hellesdon offside.

Fortunately, new goalkeeper Craig Woolrich was switched on and ready to play and he managed to save us from being on the receiving end of a drubbing.

So. Rules for the future: get to bed early on a Saturday - Match of the Day is repeated on Sunday mornings when they can be eating their breakfasts. And come to matches ready to play and wide awake.

Make us proud…

Thanks again to Michael Elvin for running the line for us.
