Wymondham -v- Taverham
Result: 1-9 Loss
1-2 Halftime
Goalscorer: Nick Parker
Wymondham Player of the Match: Josh Mellor
A welcome return to the boys playing to win, despite the final scoreline suggesting othwerwise.
Taverham are unbeaten this season so far but boy did we rattle them to start off, with Nick Parker starting the scoring early on. Even after Taverham had equalised, the boys maintained the pressure and continued to worry the opposition. A mistake punished by Taverham just before half-time could have been shrugged off but for whatever reason - be it the thoughtfulness following our observing a two minute silence in remembrance of the fallen or some other issue - the boys came out after the break and made a few mistakes didn’t chase quite as hard as they had in the first half.
Dan Brindle and Jack Morris up front gave the Taverham defence some ‘issues’ and Nick Parker had to be marked by no less than three defenders!
In defence, Craig’s goalkeeping was superb, saving us from ending up with a far worse scoreline and Josh Mellor sweeping across to make some tackles to stop scoring opportunities.
Our wingers, Matt Elvin and Nick Parker, made the most of the width of the pitch and JamesGayton and Joseph Bush battled in the middle of the field.
We just need to maintain consistency - keep our first half performance for the whole of each and every game. We know we can play when we try!
Thanks to Michael Elvin for running the line for us again and for providing the medal for the Man of the Match.
